Teeth eruptions in babies
Those who are already parents recognize that a baby’s teething period can be such a big challenge.
At times it comes as a surprise because one may have heard that there is a specific age that all babies experience teeth eruptions.
But after only three and half months, baby-girls particularly may start teething while some boys may start as early as four on average, which is perfectly normal.
However, this does not mean that all babies endures this at this same time, some may be late because they are different just like us adults.
This is what makes it difficult for many mothers to know right away what their babies could be suffering from, once the early signs starts to show up.
It is not easy to suspect this problem at such a premature age, which is why consulting its paediatrist is important, before curing it at home for undiagnosed ailments.
Why does teething become a problem?
If it were possible for a particular baby not to suffer from any other symptom of a different disease, the teething problem would not arise
It would only show up normal and less distressing signs general for all teething babies.
From the information I gathered, teething eruption problems arise first when there are other signs like fever because it accelerates the rate at which this process of growth is supposed to take naturally.
Secondly, a tooth is normally hidden in the bone, which is also covered by the gum.
As it grows into the mouth, it breaks through the bone-gum, and may at times carry along with it the bone.
Now this is what the paediatrist would remove to allow the actual tooth to erupt without being covered and this would let the baby’s teething process quite normal.
What symptoms are common?
At birth, the antibodies the babies obtained while in the mother’s womb start expiring as they get exposed to the environmental infections.
Simultaneously, its body starts producing its own antibodies to fight back, but for these to be enough, the mums must mind the diet.
If not, a baby may show up many signs of diverse diseases, as their immunity weakens, and it would be difficult to know if some of these are due to teething.
A baby whose teeth are about to erupt may have increased salivation or drooling but one sign so rampant is itchy gums.
At this time, a child will put any object into its mouth, so it can sooth the uncontrollable itch where the tooth is erupting.
Most mums or for lack of a better word inexperienced nannies would not be prompt to suspect that the baby could be having teething problems and therefore would take the objects away, while the baby continues to be irritable.
The baby could ingest germs from these objects, which is why another common sign is diarrhoea.
Later than six months teething
Though the baby is now ready to be called a toddler, their immunity is particularly very low, but their bodies are capable of making up for the lost at-birth antibodies.
So if your baby’s teething process comes this late, it has the potential to survive it even if the paediatrist does not remove the intruding bone, if he or she is well nourished and given medical assistance.
Basically, the canines of the lower jaw are believed to cause the symptoms above in toddlers, which is why some cultures in other parts of the world requires that they be removed by traditional dentists.
This may lead to damage of blood vessels or completely ruin the developing canines set and make the child loose a permanent one in future.
Note: this information is only meant to create awareness about your baby’s health issues, for professional clarification and medical support; seek the paediatrist advice regarding whatever your child may suffer from.
